Last Day of Summer???

I actually already thought we'd had the last day of summer...a few weeks ago it was really cold, and I thought, "Well, here we go." But imagine my surprise--well, everyone's surprise--when we a 77-degree day yesterday! We had a busy morning--flat tire, ASDA shopping, and fundraising coffee--but as soon as we got home, we quickly packed a picnic lunch, put on swimsuits, grabbed our buckets and spades and walked to the beach.

We spent five hours there. The boys had an absolute ball. When we got to the beach at about 12:30, the tide was out and there were lots of rockpools to explore. After the tide came in, the boys played in a rather warm tidal pool for a few hours. Then, eventually, even in the surf. Merrit actually got out there a little bit, although it was cold. Like, your ankle bones start hurting if you stand in it for long, but he waded out and said he got used to it eventually. Brrr. Other people were out there, too. Crazies.

By the time we left, the shadows were long and the boys were sandy and hungry. Here are some pictures from our day.
