"Hap Bir-day, Ollieeeeee"

Ollie's been singing "Hap Bir-day" to himself and practicing holding up four fingers (instead of three) all day long. He's been super excited about his birthday since he woke up this morning, and now, two hours past his bedtime, he's still not ready for the party to end. (Could have something to do with chocolate cake?)

Mike, off-stage: "...And get back in that bed. If you come down here again, I'm turning off that hall light!"

This evening, we had a small party. It was the four of us plus a neighbor-friend, Leo, and a sweet couple that we've come to know and love, Heather and Irvin. (Heather worked with Mike at Reflections.) Heather and Irvin dote on our boys and say all the time how much they remind them of their boys, who are now both in their 30s.

Birthday presents for the big-deal four-year-old!

We decorated the kitchen with balloons and Ollie's preschool artwork.
We decorated Ollie with a paper crown and "birthday boy" badge.

Birthday cake and close-up of the paper crown.

It's a party!

Digging in to the cake.

The chocolate and sugar are hitting the bloodstream
right about now.

Oh yeah. That's the stuff.

Chocolate cake. In full effect.

Heather helping Ollie open a gift.

Ollie loves Heather.  He calls her "Hotter."

Mike and Irvin chatting.

Irvin and Heather gave Ollie a Fireman Sam firetruck.

When Ollie did the siren sound, he did it British-style:
"Eee arrrr ,eeee arrr, eeee arrrr."

Playing with some of his birthday Play-doh.

Birthday message from Mommy: "Happy birthday, big boy! You are a treasure to us and, as we've said since you were a tiny thing: 'You are a happy handful.' I love you to the moon and back."

Birthday message from Daddy: "Enjoy the subconscious swim, and don't let anybody box you in."
