The wild North Sea, so choppy and grey
was tame yesterday, so tame
I saw the Caribbean waters of Isle Mujeres--
silk-smooth sand, quiet lapping licks,
clear salt water, dancing caustic pattern
and the two of us,
now parents, exhausted after three years--
just a season, really--
But a season of hospitalizations and traumas--
a tracheostomy tube for our four-day-old firstborn
a g-tube in his tummy for my milk
a cleft palate repair, and brutal recovery
nursing staff down the hall while we slept
my unplanned, unwanted c-section
my hard-headed will to breast pump his milk.
And the palm-tree breeze of Isle Mujeres,
sifting that stress away like sand,
reconnecting us, resurrecting us.
With our boy, safe
home with grandparents,
his hospitalizations and traumas behind him,
behind us.

Wow. What a season you have experienced here. This was a beautiful post. Praying this season you are refreshed and can rejoice at how God has moved and brought you through so much. Blessings to you and your family.
I am glad this prompt was there for you to frame this experience so beautifully! And I hope and pray that you come into a bright, beautiful and easy season soon . . .
That's a keeper-poem. There's nothing like the ocean for bringing clarity home. I see those Carribbean waters you're talking about. Trying not to cry here.
Love this. I will always, always look up to you guys for the way you handled that season.
Loved the video of the water. Nice touch. Water is (or can be) so soothing. Hope you continue to have better seasons.
